Excellent news for drivers considering an electric vehicle (EV) lease: the UK government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG) scheme has been expanded and will now run until the financial year 2029-30, securing thousands of pounds in savings for future lessees.
The Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed that the grant scheme is accelerating EV adoption, with over 40,000 drivers already benefitting from the discounts since its launch.
Big Savings and Growing Choice
The grant is designed to reduce the upfront cost of qualifying electric vehicles, making a switch to an EV lease more affordable than ever. Eligible cars, which must have a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of £37,000 or less, are split into two bands:
- Top Grant: Drivers can save £3,750 on the most sustainably produced models. The list of vehicles eligible for this top-tier discount has recently doubled, now including models such as the Ford Puma Gen-E, Nissan LEAF, MINI Countryman Electric, and key new models from Renault.
- Lower Grant: A discount of £1,500 is available on a wide range of other qualifying electric cars that meet strict range and warranty standards.
The government recently injected an additional £1.5 billion into the scheme, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting EV adoption and providing long-term confidence for anyone looking to go electric.
With more manufacturers successfully applying to the scheme, drivers now have a wider selection of affordable, high-quality EVs available to lease, directly reducing your monthly payments.
