EV Van charging

The UK government has announced an extension of its Plug-in Van and Truck Grants until at least April 2027, providing long-term certainty for businesses and fleets planning to transition to electric vehicles. Future of Roads Minister Lilian Greenwood confirmed the extension on August 18, 2025.

The grants, which currently provide a discount of up to £2,500 for small vans and £5,000 for large vans, are a crucial part of the push for wider EV adoption in commercial fleets.

This successful extension is a direct result of the Zero Emission Van Plan, a collaborative campaign led by key industry players including the BVRLA, Logistics UK, and Recharge UK. In addition to securing the grant extension, the campaign has also achieved several other significant milestones. These include the introduction of a new depot charging scheme, official guidance for local authorities on cross-pavement charging solutions, and the removal of certain training requirements for 4.25t vans, making them more accessible for businesses.

While celebrating these successes, the Zero Emission Van Plan coalition continues to address outstanding issues, such as developing a robust support system for the used van market and ensuring regulatory alignment for 4.25t vans. The ongoing efforts aim to create a comprehensive framework that facilitates a smooth and sustainable shift to electric commercial transport.
