DVLA Launches Consultation on Digital Driving Licence

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is set to roll out a digital Driving Licence (dDL) by the end of this year.

This new digital version will be among the first documents available through the GOV.UK Wallet and App, offering users a secure, convenient, and trusted digital companion to the traditional physical licence.

DVLA is collaborating with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology to develop the necessary functionality for integrating the dDL into the Welcome to GOV.UK Wallet.

As part of the rollout, DVLA’s Customer Insight Team will conduct research with organisations that routinely verify driving licences. This includes businesses that check driving entitlement or use the licence to confirm an individual’s identity. Feedback gathered will help shape potential improvements to DVLA’s services and processes.
