Ford Focus ST Review
We were all excited by this car arriving and we all had pre-determined ideas of what we were going to think of the car.
We were all in for a shock for rather than an ASBO car we had expected after watching Top Gear, we discovered a superbly sophisticated grown up car that would please the most discerning driver with its quality and ride, whilst exciting every car enthusiast that saw it.
The ST Focus it was is one of the most precise and easy to drive cars we have ever tested.
The best place to start with the Focus ST is at its heart and that’s its engine and transmission. The ST is powered by a 2.5 Volvo derived 5 cylinder engine that produces 225ps, the engine revs freely, has no turbo lag and sounds simply gorgeous. The 6 speed gearbox is one of the silkiest smooth we have ever tried in any car ever.
With a top speed of 152 mph and 0-62mph taking just 6.8 seconds, it’s a pretty quick car. However, the real quality that the ST Focus has which other cars of this style don’t have is that you don’t have to drive it hard to enjoy it. Just being in the ST Focus is a real buzz because it does its work so easily and without fuss or bother. The engine noise is subtle, but its gorgeous, more “Sting” than “Slipknot”.
The interior of the ST has a real feeling of quality that its competitors in the hot hatch market lack and Ford have done a really good job of blending sporting features with comfort and luxury and its inside the ST Focus is a very good place to be.
The ST Focus is a magical car that will please people that want really high performance without working at it, but it’s also a driveable everyday car that’s comfortable and highly specified, offering all the features of the normal Focus but wrapped up in the most desirable package.
The normal Ford Focus is the UK’s best selling car and for very good reason, so that alone should be enough top convince you to buy one, but the ST Focus is no normal Focus, so you could say “it’s better than the best”.
