Rare Ayrton Senna Race Helmet and Race Suit to go up for Auction

OK guys, if you are a fan of the late Ayrton Senna, here’s a chance for you to break open the piggy bank and buy a bit of the legend. That said, it’s going to have to be a big piggy bank as the helmet alone is expected to make around £50,000.

The helmet which dates back to Senna’s championship winning year in 1991 will be sold by Silverstone Auctions at their “Race Retro and Classic Car” sale on 25th February at Stoneleigh Park, along with an equally rare Senna Race Suit.

Both the helmet and race suit were used by Ayrton Senna and this has been documented by McLaren International and an authentication certificate for the helmet is signed by Ron Dennis himself.  Both items are fully branded, the helmet having the traditional Senna livery, coupled with Nacional, Marlboro, Boss and Honda branding. 

The race suit has similar branding to the helmet, but includes TAG Heuer, Goodyear, Shell and Courtaulds logos also and the jewel in the crown is Senna’s name embroidered on the belt, along with the Brazilian flag and it’s expected to reach up to £30,000.

With interest in Ayrton Senna at a high following the release of the Senna movie, these items could fetch even more as they represent on of the most unique classic Formula One related items that money can buy, so estimates aside, it will be interesting to see what they realise (and even more interesting to find out who bought them).

If you don’t fancy the Senna items, other things such as a trophy won by the late Jochen Rindt and a crash helmet worn by Gerhard Berger also go under the hammer.

For people more interested in the machinery than the memorabilia, there will also be a number of competition and classic cars sold on the day, including a Maserati 3500GT, an 1987 Metro 6R4, a 1948 Allard and a 1966 Shelby GT-350.

So get saving guys, you’ve got just over a month to get your pennies together.
