Fancy  A Bugatti Veyron? Well Check Out Your Local Car Auction

If you’re like me, you will find it amazing that you are going to find the worlds most exclusive and expensive super-car lined up bescide all the Vectra’s and Mondeo’s in your local car auction, well that’s pretty much what happened at British Car Auctions (BCA) when a 2006 Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 went under the hammer. One of only 300 built, the Veyron made just £625,000 and I don’t know, does that sound expensive?

The sale has been detailed in a press release from BCA where they list the top 10 unusual vehicles sold during the last 12 months across its 21 auction sites in the UK. 

Other notable cars were a 2008 Rolls Royce Phantom drop head coupe which made just £195,000 and A 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder E Gear 2 also sold strongly, realising £90,000 at 6,000 miles. featured in an auction of 266 cars, which between them made over 4 million pounds.

Getting even more “off the wall”, another BCA auction saw them sell a couple of ‘Road Trains’ you know, the kind of thing that takes tourists around really posh holiday resorts (such as Great Yarmouth).  The first train a ‘New Holland Leisure Train’ sold for £4,900 whilst an Italian made ‘Dotto Train’ made just £2,500.  An Iveco truck that had been lavishly converted into a mobile office with 12 workstations to promote recycling found itself recycled, making £38,500

Other classic cars under the hammer this year included a 1959 Ford Zodiac Convertible which was found in a barn and made £6,300 and whilst that might not seem bad, apparently the car was pretty much a basket case.  Fancy yourself as “Postman Pat” well an ex Royal Mail Morris Minor van dating back to 1970 (and red of course) made £8,000 as it was sold in aid of Barnados charity. 

A 60 plate Honda CR-Z Hybrid notched up £18,500, because it was previously owned by Justin Hawkins, the ex lead vocalist from the rock band “The Darkness”.  A 1976 Cortina 2000GT previously owned by the BBC made £2,200 and its claim to fame was that it was used in the Culture Show in 2007 (so!).

If you fancy an interesting day out, keep an eye open for classic car auctions, as they take place at auction houses all over the country and even if you don’t fancy sticking your hand in your pocket, its nice to see these old cars and vans and for sure, there will be somewhere at the auction where you can buy yourself a cuppa and a bacon roll……paradise.
